Hello and welcome back to The Ledger!
I performed in Minneapolis this weekend, and I really appreciate everyone who came out. I had a great time and I hope you all did too. Next month - LONDON.
I’ll be in London on August 18 performing with the wonderful Eleanor Goldfield. And then I’ll be in Wisconsin for two shows in September.
We need to keep on fighting against the western war machine’s ambitions in Iran, Venezuela, and wherever they show up next. The Military Industrial Complex will never give up when they can smell a profit.
Remember, in both Iran and Venezuela, it was US meddling that caused their crises. We’ve sanctioned the shit out of them both. We’ve held coups in both. We’ve provided material support to terrorist rebels. And our war hawks won’t just let their investments go to waste.
Organizations like Code Pink & Answer Coalition need to be overflowing with fresh members, so check them out.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson Is the Ultimate Expression of Neoliberalism in Collapse
Novara Media | Aaron Bastani
Future historians will reflect on the events of this week as an extraordinary snapshot of the present moment. Today Boris Johnson has been elected leader of the Conservative party, by tomorrow he will be Britain’s prime minister. On Thursday London expects to see temperatures above 35°C, as the country’s public conversation – through sheer observation – comes to accept the reality of climate change. In the Persian Gulf, meanwhile, a regional cold war continues to turn hot, with members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard interrogating crew members of the UK oil tanker Stena Impero. The rise of the extreme right, climate systems breakdown, the slow ebb of American hegemony, Britain’s inability to navigate a multilateral world. Days which crystallise the stories set to define the coming century.
Mother Jones Is Failing Its Namesake
FAIR | Naomi LaChance
Kevin Drum, a political columnist for Mother Jones, wrote in a blog post (6/26/19) last month that he did not understand why workers do not want their employer to work with the government agencies carrying out President Donald Trump’s brutal immigration policies, particularly Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP). When workers at home goods website Wayfair staged a walkout because their company was supplying bunk beds and mattresses for a child detention camp in Texas, Drum could not fathom their insubordination.
Climate Change References Are Disappearing From U.S. Government Sites
EcoWatch | Jordan Davidson
It's no secret that the Trump administration has championed fossil fuels and scoffed at renewable energy. But the Trump administration is trying to keep something secret: the climate crisis. That's according to a new analysis from the watchdog group Environmental Data and Governance Initiative (EDGI) who found that more than a quarter of the references to climate change on .gov websites vanished.
